Size: standard women’s sock, fitted to wearer
Materials:
2 skeins Knit Picks Sock Garden in Zinnia
5 size 2 (U.S.) double pointed needles
waste yarn
2 stitch holders or extra needles
tapestry needle

Gauge: 30 sts x 40 rows in circular stockinette on size 2 needles

Make 2:
CO 56 sts. Separate the stitches so there are 14 on each needle. Join into a round and complete 1 inch in K2, P2 ribbing. Start lace pattern:
Rows 1, 3, 9, 11 : K3, yo, K2, K2togtbl, K2tog, K2, yo, K3
Row 2 and all even rows: knit
Rows 5, 7: K2, yo, K3, K2tog, K2togtbl, K3, yo, k2
Complete 5 inches in lace pattern, ending in a row 12 (knit).

Create heel position:
Using waste yarn, knit across 28 stitches. Going back to main sock yarn, knit across waste yarn, and continue in lace pattern across next 28 stitches. The beginning of the round remains the same.

Complete 2 lace reps in the pattern of first 28 stitches, knit (foot), second 28 stitches, lace (instep). Complete about 1 1/2 inches of foot. Place foot and instep stitches on stitch holders or spare needles.

Complete heel:
Go back to heel area, and carefully pull out waste yarn, putting one stitch on one needle, one stitch on the another. There will be 20 stitches on each needle. Starting with the beginning of the round, knit across 20 stitches. On another needle, pick up 2 more stitches from the hole between the heel stitches and knit across 10 stitches from the other needle of held stitches. Using a third needle, knit across the last 10 held stitches and pick up two more stitches from the hole on the other side.
Row 1: Needle 1: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, K1; Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1; Needle 3: k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: Needle 1: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, K1; Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end; Needle 3: knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.
Complete rows 2 and 3 until there are 28 stitches left on the heel. Graft the remaining stitches together.

Toe:
Return to the foot. After removing the stitch holders or holding needles, continue the foot as established until measurement from the heel is about 2 inches less than desired length. Begin decreases:
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Needle 1: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, K1; Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end; Needle 3: knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until desired length is reached (I ended at 10 stitches on each needle).
Knit until about 2 inches less than desired length, decrease every other row until desired length is reached. (I ended at 18 stitches on each needle).

Finishing:
Graft together final stitches and weave in ends. Block as desired.
