More movies.

Well, since TV has fallen flat lately even though the writers’ strike is over (and I heard a rumor that even though they still had 13 episodes to air, even though “Cavemen” left with that many unaired episodes, they’re not cancelled, but have been renewed. I haven’t gotten any confirmation on that, but it is exciting to hear!), I’ve been watching more movies again. We did get Showtime when we switched from DirecTV to cable (because of the discounted attached Internet), but of course now “Dexter” and “Weeds” aren’t on! But at least we have caught up on their movies.

Recently I saw “Clerks 2” (good), “Nacho Libre” (bad), “The Nanny Diaries” (better than the book), and “Night at the Museum” (better than I expected). And of course I got a lot of knitting time in.

Besides my two Clapotis (only one being active since I still haven’t found the last ball of Tahki New Tweed), I also have been working on my Classic Elite Venue raglan. That is a lot of yarn to use up, and a raglan is easy movie knitting.

This sweater has also accompanied me to the movies twice this week.  First I went to see “Be Kind, Rewind” which I really liked.  It wasn’t a traditional Jack Black comedy, but I like Mos Def as an actor, and it was funny in parts.  Then today I went to see “The Other Boleyn Girl”.  It was well done, but not too happy an ending, as you might have guessed. And I just don’t get the obsession with Scarlett Johansson.  I guess that’s because I’m female, but I just don’t get it.  Then again, Brad Pitt doesn’t do much for me either.

I’ve still got at least 700 yards of Venue, and one or two movies on my list to see next week, so I hope to get back into Finished Objects land soon!

So is it normal to be working (I’m back to my two part time at home jobs along with the full time kid watching job) and daydreaming about knitting?

A couple of weeks ago I started a Clapotis (I am *truly* the last person to come around to this pattern) with some Debbie Bliss Pure Silk that I have, then put it aside to make a scarf for a new friend I have.

The scarf got frogged, so I decided to start a Clapotis with the yarn I was using, Tahki New Tweed. I swear I have 4 balls of that yarn, but I lost one while I was working on the previous scarf, so now I’m stalled on my second Clapotis.

Meanwhile I enjoyed the pattern so much that I started one in my endless Classic Elite Venue (the link goes to the actual cone I bought so long ago! It’s still up on their website!). That’s as far as I’ve gotten, but I want to work on it so much that it’s keeping me from the exciting market research that fills my days as of late.

She said she was jaded.

(That is almost all of the song by King Missile that I can quote here 🙂

So I went to Stitches West on Saturday. I was so excited to go and see all the pretty yarn, and hopefully run into a few locals/Ravelry friends. Well, the first person I ran into was my former coworker (and a few others from the company) from the Job from Hell (TM) which was very nice, and actually I expect to see her at Stitches these days since she lives all the way across the Bay from us (shudder – so far 😉 . She had already bought lots of yarn and was going to rest her feet before doing more shopping, so I was even more excited. Want to see what I bought at Stitches?

Yes, that’s right, nothing. I walked around, got a glimpse of Jess from Ravelry and Vicki Howell, and bought nothing. Honestly, Stitches seems more like a place to get all your LYS in the same place, and we have so many LYS that I didn’t really need to drive past them all to get them all in one place. I even visited the Blue Moon Fiber Arts booth (and we know how much I hate Socks that Rock) but all they had was Socks that Rock. Some of the colors they’ve developed since I bought mine that fateful day in Portland (before they were so popular that the LYS there couldn’t stock them anymore) I actually like, but I hate STR and would have bought some in worsted or something else, but alas I couldn’t give my money away at Stitches.

Lest you think my stash is faltering, fear not. Last week was my yearly pilgrimage to Oakland and I stopped by Article Pract. $100 later I bought this gorgeous yarn:

Tulle by Prism. It was “on sale” which I didn’t know meant 15% off $17 a skein, but it is so gorgeous I couldn’t resist! I also bought my first Claudia’s Handpainted Yarn:

Buckeye, just the color for me! If I had known, maybe I should have gone to Ohio State too just for their colors! (A couple of friends of mine from Maryland went there because they had great grad school packages.)

I also recently recieved this gorgeous yarn from a Swap-Bot swap:

I really made out on this one – it came with chocolate too!

A Rhetorical Question

Say you had over 500 skeins of yarn, and at least 10 works in progress. Anything else you do besides knitting keeps you from finishing said projects and using up said yarn. What would you do with this:

Yes, you see at least 4 WIPs stuck in this mass of tangled yarn.  So, would you spend time unraveling all the yarn, or would you (gasp!) throw it away?  You’d think if you really liked yarn and collecting it that you wouldn’t let your projects get this way, but I guess I don’t.  I think it’s all about the chase for me, and once I have the yarn or have started the project, I don’t have as much interest in it. How about you? Would you untangle this yarn? Throw it away? Do you let your yarn get into this position in the first place?

I’ve been too lazy to pull out my camera this week, but I have been working on a bib for my friend’s baby (I only need to sew on the button) and my red sweater I started awhile ago. Because of the writers’ strike I have been watching more movies lately so I decided to complete this meme I just found:

“SUPPOSEDLY if you’ve seen over 85 films, you have no life. Mark the ones you’ve seen. There are 239 films on this list. Copy this list, go to your own facebook account blog, paste this as a note. Then, put x’s next to the films you’ve seen, add them up.Have fun!

Phew! I have a life 🙂 The person I stole it from got 109 so I feel pretty lame. However, I’ve seen many more films that aren’t on this list. In fact, I’ve been listing them for the hell of it here.

Damn it!

This is why you don’t knit at a yarn store:

Universal Yarn Company “Moods”

Plymouth Yarn “Happy Feet”

I was going there for good. I had a bag of things I’ve knit for a couple of months, and Full Thread Ahead has “charity knitting” every Friday. Or so I thought. Apparently the knitting group petered out around the holidays, so I was left on my own to shop!!! I couldn’t pass up this “Moods” yarn that has a nice amount of yardage (192) and is gorgeous. I don’t even knit socks these days, but the “Happy Feet” yarn was just gorgeous too. Damn it.

And I was just getting incredibly annoyed at how much yarn I have already.

(ETA: I totally forgot to mention just how good I was at Tuesday Morning this week, too, they had a huge collection of yarn and I almost bought some but I didn’t have time to wait in the line then. I’m glad I held out for the quality stuff!)
