Here it is so far. I do like the way the Knit Picks Sock Garden is striping, even though I haven’t been able to see the pattern as much as I’d like. New unofficial poll — for those of you who like socks that are longer than anklets, how long do you think they should be? I’ve seen anywhere from 5 to 7 inches on other patterns and I’m not sure how long to make these since I prefer shorter socks. So what do you think? 5 inches? 6 inches? 7 inches? Longer? Shorter?

The first person who gives me the winning sock length will get a secret (even to me) sock related prize when Sockapaloooza socks go out …

Without further ado …

I usually make cuffs between 5 and 6 inches (5 1/2, but if there’s a pattern repeat it can be hard to be exact). That gives me a sock that stops just before my calf really widens and is more like a commercial sock. πŸ™‚

I prefer a 6 inch cuff length. For me, that’s just the most comfortable.

I usually stop between 5 and 6 too, where I can if there is a pattern repeat.

I say go for 6 inches. I like a shorter sock cuff too, but I suppose it all depends how snug the ribbing is. My storebought socks are all about 7 inches, but I think since handknit are a little softer, and thicker, it’s better to go shorter and have more or tighter ribbing πŸ™‚

I stop between 5 & 6 as well… that’s where my calf muscle starts and its also a good length to peek out of the tops of my hightop Cons.

Good luck w/ the socks πŸ™‚

I like about 5 inches before starting the heel flap. I use 5 inch DPNs, and just knit till the cuff is the same length as one of the DPNs. Six inches seems a little too long for me.

BTW those are lovely socks. Very pretty color!

Thanks for the input! I’ll do 5 pattern repeats and then measure …

Jennifer, it’s you! My pattern repeat ended at exactly 6 inches!
